Singapore government, economists may cut growth forecasts as Trump’s tariffs bite
Both official and private-sector forecasts for Singapore’s full-year growth may be cut after US President Donald Trump slapped a blanket 10 per cent import duty on all countries and more extensive reciprocal tariffs on the “worst offenders”. The official gross domestic product growth forecast may be downgraded from the current range of between 1 and 3 per cent, as the situation has “turned out to be worse” than expected when the projection was made, Minister for Trade and Industry Gan Kim Yong told reporters on Thursday (Apr 3).

Far East Orchard acquires Manchester purpose-built student accommodation site for £10.9 million
Far East Orchard announced on Thursday (Apr 3) that it will be acquiring a purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) site in Manchester, for £10.9 million (S$19.1 million). Located at 3 – 5 Plymouth Grove, the 275-year leasehold site, which was granted planning permission in April 2024, will be developed into a 239-bed PBSA property. It is expected to be completed in 2028.
Mitsubishi plans to invest four trillion yen over next three years to drive growth
Japanese trading house Mitsubishi Corp said on Thursday (Apr 3) it planned to invest at least four trillion yen (S$36.5 billion) over the next three years to drive growth and aimed to lift its net profit to 1.2 trillion yen in the 2027/28 financial year.
