The digital transformation wave has already hit every industry. The facilities management (FM) sector is no exception. To some, questions such as “why needed” and “how best to do” still loom large on the horizon. Ironically, the pandemic and new “norm” accelerate the adoption rate of digitalisation across the board. People source for digital interaction to keep economic activities running. The delivery of essential FM services faces real-life testing e.g. in area of manpower challenge and more. All this seems to shout out: “The digital transformation in FM industry must unravel!”
The Real Estate Industry Transformation Map (ITM) and many facilities’ stakeholders, including building owners and FM managers have called for the need to “go digital” in the service delivery. Industry leaders are also constantly challenged to experiment and to solve the 21st century business problems with the aid of Artificial Intelligence (AI). Yet gap keeps growing between conventional and innovative facilities in terms of practices and application. Even when the real estate industry has already been propelled by the Proptech dynamics, a cohesively collective collaboration of technology is yet to be seen throughout the lifecycle.
The momentum of digital transformation will continue to grow with or without takers because the future work model of ‘human- system-machine/robot’ is what most owners or service providers believe will render productivity, operational efficiency and choices of diversity. In this course, we will examine the digital transformation journey of the facilities management sector and how businesses can adopt the appropriate strategies to move their organisation along towards digital productive and operational efficiency.
